Dear TOBI Supporters,
For the past eight years, Theology of the Body Institute and the Cor Project, the apostolate led by Christopher West, have worked closely to promote and spread Pope Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. A recent period of strategic conversations between our organizations has focused us on how best to share this teaching with the most people. Given the stated missions of the two entities, we are pleased to announce that a new shared vision between TOBI and the Cor Project will allow the programs and courses of the Institute to expand their reach in tandem with the Cor Project’s global evangelization efforts and membership program.
As of August 15, 2018, the public charity currently known as the Theology of the Body Institute will be renamed the “Theology of the Body Foundation” and will transfer rights to its name – “Theology of the Body Institute” – to Cor Project. Cor Project will utilize the Theology of the Body Institute name for courses and assume responsibility for administering all Theology of the Body Institute courses and programs.
This new vision is the result of much prayer and discernment over the last 18 months. The leadership of both organizations met recently with Archbishop Charles Chaput, the Institute’s Episcopal Advisory Board chairman, and he offered his encouragement and confidence in the new vision. Under Christopher West, Jason Clark and Jen Settle’s leadership, and with Bill Donaghy’s course and on-site instruction, the Institute will continue to train and educate women and men to understand, live, and promote Saint John Paul II’s teaching in profound ways that benefits its students, as well as the Church and communities in which they serve.
Under the Cor Project, the Institute as you experience it at courses and through online resources will continue just as you have experienced them over the last 14 years. There are two more courses scheduled for 2018 and the 2019 schedule is set and will be announced shortly.
Theology of the Body Foundation will focus on raising funds necessary for providing scholarships for students who wish to attend Institute courses, as well as distributing other resources for those interested in TOB education. The public charity’s existing board, consisting of David Savage, Jeannine Peters, and Bob Blaisse, will continue to serve and new board members will be announced in the months ahead. The new responsibilities and roles of each organization will allow for the development and expansion of TOB Institute courses and programs, and help the donated dollars of generous supporters fund scholarships and programs more effectively.
For a world in need of the good news of the Gospel, Jesus Christ and the charity, hope and love that our Church offers, the Institute’s presentation and education of Pope Saint John Paul II’s teaching has never been more important.
With the vision outlined above, we believe we are taking a bold and important step that will ensure continued success in reaching more and more people who long to know the beauty of Pope Saint John Paul’s great gift to the Church and to the world – the theology of the body!
Thank you for your support and prayers, and please pray for the Cor Project, the Theology of the Body Institute, and the Theology of the Body Foundation!
